Fall Meeting Recap
The ninth annual fall meeting of the Arizona Chapter of the American Academy of Optometry was held on Saturday, September 10, 2022, at Midwestern University. Approximately 95 optometrists and students were in attendance at the 6-hour CE event.
The diverse CE program featured our Keynote Speaker, Dr. Elizabeth Escobedo, who presented a 2-hour lecture entitled A Journey with Myopia. Dr. Carla Engelke presented a 1-hour CE lecture entitled Uveitis Management Updates and Dr. Matthew Roe presented a 1-hour CE lecture entitled The Phone in the Room: Screen Time, Childhood Development, and Optometry’s Role.
The program concluded with 2-hours of grand rounds CE featuring Drs. Renee Doss, Simran Brar, Timothy Hug, and Brayden Lundquist. Grand Rounds topics included cavernous hemangioma, pediatric retinoblastoma, conjunctival lymphoma, and conjunctival granuloma formation in a scleral contact lens wearer.
The Arizona Chapter is happy to provide educational travel fellowships in the amount of $750 to one resident and one student within the state to attend the annual meeting of the American Academy of Optometry. At the Chapter’s meeting, Dr. Kennedy Hall, a resident at the Phoenix Children’s Hospital, was awarded the Chapter’s Resident Travel Fellowship, and Jeremiah Gagnon, a student at the Midwestern University Arizona College of Optometry, was announced as the recipient of the Chapter’s Student Travel Fellowship.
The Arizona Chapter’s spring meeting will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2023.

Arizona Chapter Student Travel Fellowship
Candidates must be an optometry student at Midwestern University, Arizona College of Optometry and have been selected to present a paper or poster at the upcoming Academy meeting. One letter of recommendation and a one-page statement are required.

Arizona Chapter Resident Travel Fellowship
The Arizona Chapter of the American Academy of Optometry is pleased to offer one educational travel fellowship in the amount of $750 to attend Academy 2022 San Diego. All 2022-23 residents in an accredited residency program located in the State of Arizona are encouraged to apply. Interested residents must complete the application form here. The application should be emailed to the Arizona Chapter (firstname.lastname@example.org) along with proof of registration to Academy 2022 San Diego by August 26, 2022. The name of the recipient will be announced at the Arizona Chapter’s Fall Meeting. All residents are encouraged to attend the meeting; however, attendance is not required to receive the travel fellowship.
It is the standard policy of the Academy that recipients who receive a travel stipend to attend an event, cannot receive a second or duplicate travel stipend for the same event, from the Academy or its affiliates.
